Athirai Sivaseelan

What is your year and program?

I’m a first-year in General Science 🙂

What inspires you to sing?

My music teacher is my main inspiration. I’ve known him for 14 years and he’s like an uncle to me. He taught me that music is something you should never give up. If you can create with it, or simply feel something from it, music is a blessing to have in your life. I have him to thank for making my love for music such a huge part of my identity.

How would you describe your style of music?

I would say it’s a depiction of the emotion I’m experiencing in the moment, so it’s ever-changing. But, I do love some good R&B that’ll have me in my feelings.

What are you most excited about for Western Voice?

To hear the other performers and the songs they chose!!

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I’m a chef in the kitchen.

Avi Roy

What is your year and program?

First-year studying BMOS.

What inspires you to sing?

I’ve always loved music and how it makes people feel. The stories that go into every song and the stories that come out of them are beautiful and for me, the most inspirational reason as to why I started singing.

How would you describe your style of music?

I love every kind of music and so this question is tough for me to answer but at heart I’m an R&B guy and I’d say that the music I make revolves around R&B with influences from all kinds of other genres as well.

What are you most excited about for Western Voice?

I love performing and so naturally I would’ve been most excited about the actual performance itself but since everything is online this year I am very excited to see everyone’s reactions to the awesome singers that Western Voice has!

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

Music wasn’t actually my first passion, I played competitive soccer for essentially my whole life before deciding that music is what I love and what I want to do. Still love soccer though.

Clara Sun

What is your year and program?

Fourth-year, Medical Sciences (Microimm + Path)

What inspires you to sing?

Listening to other people perform, seeing their love for music, and feeling the power of connectedness it brings to people all over the world – that is what inspires me to sing. But also like super random things I hear like the Go Train “Doors closing” tunes or jingles from weird commercials.

How would you describe your style of music?

My style of music is literally indescribable. If you were to look through my Spotify you would get pop, classical, Broadway, K-pop, R&B, etc. It’s a mess.

What are you most excited about for Western Voice?

I’m so excited to see all the talent that the contestants have to offer!

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I’m that type of person that listens to a song on repeat for the entire day until I get tired of it 2 weeks later.

Ericka Luna

What is your year and program?

Fourth-year, Commercial Aviation Management.

What inspires you to sing?

The connection music can bring would be what inspires me to sing. I feel without music and the ability to sing, my life would be very different and many connections I have made through this passion would be non-existent. I feel many people would agree. Music has this innate ability to connect people, and bringing people together is always something that has inspired me.

How would you describe your style of music?

I would describe my style of music as undecided as of yet. I do not think I have settled into a specific genre, who knows? Maybe, I never will. I resonate strongly with soul, R&B, and singer-songwriter with a little spice of Latin Urban. Eventually, I will be dabbling more in a blend of these genres.

What are you most excited about for Western Voice?

am most excited to finally have people listen to my original song if I am lucky enough to make it to the finals! I have only shares my originals with my family and friends, it would be a blessing to finally get some more ears on my rough work.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I was a talent manager for a music festival in the Halton Region when I was 17. I got to filter through all the applications of over 500 applicants, and contact the talent that we wanted for our line up. I spoke to many artists like Alessia Cara, Scott Helman, and Virginia to Vegas.

Felix Wang

What is your year and program?

Second-year, Economics.

What inspires you to sing?

NO CAP every single time I’ve sang to a girl and asked her out, she has said yes.

How would you describe your style of music?

To be fully honest, I haven’t figured out what type of music my style is. I listen to and enjoy a wide range of different genres so it’s so hard to choose.

What are you most excited about for Western Voice?

Excited to see the guest judges and for everyone to hear what I worked on (especially my original song!)

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I bought shares of GameStop and I don’t plan on selling.

Pritha Mukherji

What is your year and program?

Second-year MIT student.

What inspires you to sing?

I’ve been singing since the age of 4, so I would say the inspiration behind my singing are my parents and my teachers cause they are the ones who encouraged me to sing in the first place.

How would you describe your style of music?

I would say I have more of a Pop voice, but occasionally I would also go for a blues number.

What are you most excited about for Western Voice?

I guess the fact that Western Voice is being hosted virtually for the first time. I really wanna see how that goes.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

Umm, I’m the only one who can sing in my family.

Aren’t they amazing? Make sure to tune into CSA’s YouTube channel this February 13th at 8 PM (EST) for the premier of Western Voice!
